Short Answer NO! No online program, or text books, or any curriculum for that matter can be accredited! Only schools can be accredited. All the new homeschool moms flood the FB groups with what curriculum can I get that is accredited? We all explain to them what I said above and then some are like well I am not gonna homeschool then! But accreditation doesn’t mean anything in the homeschool world. Your child will still graduate, can still go to college and everything is
What is Power Homeschool?
Power Homeschool (PH) is an online curriculum that is self-paced. You can use up to 7 courses at a time. They offer Math, English, History/Social Studies, Science, and Electives. For younger grades, they have Coding classes, Ecology, Music, Social Emotional, Engineering, and Languages like Spanish and Portuguese. For Junior High, they have Health, Languages (4) and all the electives for the younger grades! For Highschool there is everything listed above plus, Art and 19 Career and Technical Educations. Things like plumbing, HVAC, medical terminology, and Microsoft Excel.
What if my child is doing great in one subject and not so great in another?
PH is designed in a way to give you the most freedom possible! Your child could be in 1st grade Math, 2nd grade English, 4th grade Science, and 8th grade Social Studies!. My example was dramatic but just to prove a point! More reasonably, your child might be in the 5th grade and be taking all 5th grade classes but say Math. They might be in 6th grade math cause they are so awesome at it! Or all 5th grade classes but 4th grade in English cause they are struggling! Some students will also finish once class early cause it realy interests them. So say in March, they finished Science class, you can simply replace 5th grade Science with 6th grade and complete however much work you want before your school year ends. When next school year starts, typically in September for most peopel they can simply pick up where they left off!
How does it work?
It’s easy. You sign up at Power Homeschool.org. You browse the various courses and pick the best ones for your child. They have a feature that allows you to figure out how much work needs to be done each day. Then when you are ready to start, you just log into the program. Your child will then pick a class to do. If they chose math for instance, a video would start playing (short concise lessons) followed by a quiz. The pattern is typically video then test video then test. They do have memory drills and practice exams and exams also! The program does give your child a number score and an overall GPA. Less work for the parents!
Whats the cost?
$25 per month per child!
How I feel about Power Homeschool!
I love love love love PH, we have been using it in our house for 2 years now. I don’t think I could homeschool without it. I love how it is set-up. I love knowing what my child’s daily goals are! I find the curriculum to be very challenging, but no so hard that it makes the child dislike school. In fact, most kids love the program! Typically when older kids start, the parents come on my facebook group and say the child cannot put their tablet down. Kids will bring it with them to the bathroom! (This fades over time) You can also join PH at any time of the year. You can log in for school at 7 am or 5 pm or 2 in the morning! This is a great fit for my family, as I work and my schedule varies. The other great thing is even my 6-year-old can do most of PH herself. I’m there for her if she has questions, but I do not need to stand over her shoulder the entire time she is doing school if I do not want to! Also, the amount of time per day is amazing. For K-5 It should take your child 20 minutes to 2 hours. 6-8 it should take them 2 to 3 hours. High School varies but typically 2 to 4 hours per day! You are probably thinking what kind of education can you get in 1 or 2 hours. Simple, an excellent one. The videos are short and concise and it is not filled with the teacher telling you about her weekend. Students misbehaving and starting and stopping class. The retention is amazing too. At Mid-terms and finals, my daughter still remembers things from Unit 1!
Conclusion
Doesn’t matter if the curriculum is accredited because curriculums cannot be! This is an online curriculum and a full curriculum for a well-rounded education. It’s very easy to use for parents and children. They have methods to check your progress! PH is very in line with public school education. If you decided to send your child back to public school they should integrate well. The cost is very affordable in comparison with other homeschool curriculums. I obviously love PH and I tell everyone I know about it every chance I get! The fact that children get excited about school, is probably my favorite part! (experiences may vary LOL) I really enjoy the fact that the videos are short and concise. You cannot expect a young child to watch a 40 minute lecture. Length of videos vary but for the very young they can be 26 seconds to about 3 to 5 minutes!
I’d like to command you on the review of this program. I would like to homeschool my children if I have them. I believe that schools nowadays have a lesser level. Power Homeschool seems to be rather complete and also it’s affordable for parents. Only $25 per month! That’s amazing to me…I’ll probably keep it for later.
It really is such an amazing program. Tell your friends about it!
Hi, this is awesome!! thank you for this great post about Power Homeschool. I have liked the idea of Homeschooling my children. I have also liked the flexibility of the curriculum. This make one interested in progressing and with no feeling that he/she is dumb!! The learners will master what they learn and the time set does not overwhelm the brain. This makes retention of what they have learned much better. One question, though: is PH open to everyone on the globe? Thank you once again for this great post on Education.
Yes its available everywhere! Even some public schools use it as their entire curriculum!
